We are Disco's Dogs - a grassroots nonprofit in Colorado rescuing dogs from regional animal shelters and training them for children with Autism related differences. We're a passionate crew that relies on sunshine, dog kisses, and the generosity of others to meet the goals of our organization.

Do you have fundraising experience? Do you want to help an organization that uses 100% of our donated funds for program expenses? We're a foster based organization that doesn't have the overhead of a facility which means that every dollar we receive is spent toward giving a kid a dog. We do not have any paid employees.

Can you help out our small little slice of heaven by lending us your fundraising expertise and knowledge?

Mission Statement

The mission of Disco’s Dogs, Inc. is to provide specially trained service and companion dogs to aid families with children challenged by Autism related differences.

Description

In 2009, we heard that a service dog could help our son with challenges he faced with sensory processing disorder. We quickly learned that many organizations are doing amazing things across the country, but there were waitlists of two or more years and price tags ranging between $16,000 to $25,000. Many organizations would not place a dog with a child under 15 years old, and our son was only five at the time. After a lot of thought and research we decided that two years was a long time to a young life and the price tag was unobtainable considering the amount other therapies cost a family. But we didn't give up and our continued research brought us to the Prison Trained K9 Companion Program who, at the time, trained special dogs for kiddos with Autism related challenges. We were thrilled to find this amazing resource right in our own back yard and within six months our son had additional support from his new fur-friend, Disco. The first night Disco was home with us, our son was able to stay asleep for the first time - all night! Our experience with the positive impact Disco had in our son's life, and the closing of the prison program's skilled companions program in 2014 inspired us to start Disco's Dogs.
