ORGANIZATION: Volunteers For Peace

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Volunteer in Ecuador with the Fundacion para la Educacion y el Voluntariado Internacional (FEVI) and work the kids, youth and elderly in the rural community of Lumbisi.

There are various opportunities for you to help people and contribute to a positive development of Ecuador’s society:

Projects include elementary schools and high schools where usually 6 to 8 volunteers help teaching English, Art, & Sports. Or, you could help in the elderly community center.

You may also work in the FEVI Child Care Center helping the teachers in their daily care and education tasks. You will share your time with children 2 to 5 years old. Teach them, care for them, or just laugh and play with them!

If you like gardening you may participate in our organic vegetable gardens which provide fresh vegetables for the kids and the elderly people in the community.

You must be enthusiastic and motivated to work with people that need your assistance. You must be flexible, patient, communicative, and compassionate. Your solidarity and empathy with underprivileged people are very important for the success of your work in the community.

When you arrive in Ecuador, you will be picked up at the airport by FEVI staff, or by your Ecuadorian hosst family. During your first days in Ecuador, you will attend an on arrival orientation, which will make you familiar with Ecuadorian way of life. With our volunteers coordinator, and the recently arrived volunteers you will visit historic Quito, which has been declared by Unesco, Patrimony of Mankind.

About Volunteers For Peace

Location:

7 Kilburn Street, Suite 316, Burlington, VT 05401, US

Mission Statement

Volunteers For Peace (VFP) organizes, promotes and supports voluntary service opportunities in the USA and abroad as an effective means of intercultural education, service learning, and community development. VFP empowers host communities to work cooperatively for environmental sustainability, social justice, and peace. VFP provides opportunities for volunteers to develop leadership skills and global connections. We advocate for civic engagement and encourage volunteers to apply their new skills as citizen diplomats, community activists and global leaders.

Description

Volunteers For Peace is a non-profit organization, founded in 1982, that offers placement in over 3,000 voluntary service projects in more than 90 countries. Each year we provide almost 1,000 volunteers with invaluable opportunities to strengthen their ability to communicate in diverse groups, explore grassroots leadership opportunities, and build cultural understanding and connections around the world.

VFP offers short-term projects and individual service adventures for adults, teens, seniors, families and groups. All projects arise from grassroots, community based need. Volunteers should be prepared to work about 5 hours a day and self-select the type of work that interests them. Work ranges from environmental to teaching English, building schools to preserving historical sites, assisting with festivals to agriculture, and so much more. Project length can vary from 2-3 weeks up to 2-3 months.

VFP's placement fee is always $500 ($650 if you are under 18 years old) and must be paid at the time of registration. (If we can’t place you we refund the full fee!) Your registration covers placement, food, accommodation and work materials for your program. Volunteers arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from the project. Projects taking place in the developing world often require an additional fee in the range of $50-$500 payable to our partners upon arrival.
