We're looking for nonjudgemental, patient, and empathetic volunteer tutors to assist high school age students who are struggling in school. These students attend our Turning Point program, which is a coordinated specialty care program that serves adolescents and young adults who are experiencing their first psychotic episode.
Turning Point Tutors provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in a variety of subjects, with particular focus on math, science, and technology, to clients who are still in high school or recently graduated. All clients have had a first episode of psychosis and may have cognitive limits and learning disabilities.
Volunteers will receive proper orientation and training before beginning. Turning Point staff will be on site with the volunteers.
Commitment/Hours: 1-2 hours per week on a mutually agreeable date and location (i.e. at our offices or a local library or community center).
DUTIES
Assist clients in completing schoolwork and assignments. Provide teaching and guidance in high school level subjects such as algebra, reading/writing, science, technology, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
College graduate. High school teaching or tutoring experience a plus. Experience in working with students with special needs a plus.
