Great Opportunity for Groups!! Volunteers come to the Second Harvest warehouse in Nazareth on the third Friday of every month to fill bags with food for the weekend for area youth. The bags contain "kid-friendly" foods that are nutritious and easily prepared.

For low-income children who eat their meals at school through government subsidized breakfast and lunch programs, weekends and holidays can mean going hungry. They may not have access to nutritious meals from lunchtime on Friday until they return to school or their summer activity and have breakfast on Monday.

Backpack Buddies seeks to fill that gap by providing easy-to-pre pare, kid-friendly food for the weekend. Each backpack contains cereal, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, soup, macaroni and cheese, canned one-dish meals, and healthy snacks.

Currently, Second Harvest is providing backpacks for more than 300 children each week at nine locations in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton school districts.
