ars is a non profit aiming to empower Iranian- American community n southern california. Social services anchor the mission of Pars and are an integral component to overcoming many of the barriers faced by newcomers and ensuring self-sufficiency. Recent immigrants often have few or limited resources and need community support in order to establish themselves in this country. P
We are looking for volunters who would be interested to teach basic computer and internet skills to Iranian adults (newcomers, refugees) at our office in Sherman Oaks.

As a community-based social and legal services organization, Pars Equality Center is dedicated to the idea of helping all members of the Iranian-American community, and those from other Persian-speaking countries, realize their full potential as informed, self-reliant, and responsible members of American society. We believe that learning and teaching the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in a democracy as well as the rules and rewards of entrepreneurship are the necessary ingredients for our success as a community.
Description
ars Equality Center is non profit, NGO located in the city of Sherman Oaks, Ca. The mission of Pars Equality Center is to offer and solicit social and legal support for all members of the Iranian American community, including refugees, asylees and immigrants. Pars’ Social Services Department has helped many, and in particular recent immigrants, through its growing breadth of programs. A partial list of these services include: English as Second Language (ESL) classes, parenting workshops, job fairs and job training, children’s programs, assistance navigating through the new social structure, medical system, school system and providing referrals to outside agencies for domestic violence and other needs. Further, a very important aspect of our Social Services Department involves the Emergency Assistance Fund, which provides basic needs to recent immigrants who are in a dire situation.
The Legal Department at Pars provides critical initial research and guidance in all areas of the law to members of the community who do not know where to turn, or may not have the resources to find help. It is astounding how many of our countrymen still face issues of discrimination and/or harassment from employers, landlords, etc. Pars offer more than 6 classes per week and two monthly workshops. All of the the classes and workshops are free of charge. We have more than 100 clients who benefits from our services on the monthly basis.
