Volunteer to be a Visitation Advocate!
Johnson County Court Services offers a very important (and volunteer-dependent) program for families and children involved in the court system. The "Supervised Visitation Program" provides an opportunity for children to share time with a parent from whom they’ve been separated, in a safe, supportive, and consistent environment. Families are court-ordered to participate in the program, and are ordered to the program for various reasons.
For a period of 12 weeks - on Tuesday evenings - the visiting parent meets for one hour with the child or children (starting at either 5:45 or 7:00 p.m.), in the presence of a volunteer Visitation Advocate, in a supervised and secure setting at the Johnson County Justice Annex in Olathe, Kansas. You would have contact with the family each week in this setting.
The success of this program depends wholly on volunteers who have a desire to help families and children. If you are interested, 18 years or older, can pass a background check, are willing to complete some basic training, and have basic computer literacy skills, please consider us for this rewarding opportunity.
Your responsibilities would include approximately 90 minutes in Olathe, Kansas each Tuesday evening for 12 sessions, and a summary of your observation notes prepared in a simple report format at the conclusion of the program. Contact us for more information!
