ORGANIZATION: YWCA of Seattle-King County-Snohomish County

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

In our homeless family shelters, things can be pretty basic when a family moves in, this group opportunity is all about changing that. Ideally your group would be about 5 strong, and have a weekend to give. You come into a recently vacated unit, 1 to 3 bedrooms, and do a spring time heavy duty cleaning, from washing walls, sometimes painting, to making beds, decorating and taking inventory before handing the keys over to the new family we get to help off the streets.

Our current priorities are for groups to take ownership over our domestic violence, teen units, Girls First and So. King County shelters and give them a top to bottom makeover. Some groups have purchased new items like picture frames, flowers, or linens, this is nice, but not required. Sometimes units are pretty beat up by the time we get in there, so it can be quite a lot of work, just so you know what you're getting into. If you do the same unit for 1 year it will be named after you with a little plaque on the door. We have units changing every week, so sign up now.

Youth volunteers are welcome.
