Zaman's Literacy Program is seeking volunteer tutors to assist with ESL and Adult Basic Education instruction. Tutors will be given an indepth training in the needs of adult learners and on delivery of the curriculum. Tutors will be paired with the same student for one-on-one or small group instruction. Tutors will be supported with an onsite Literacy Coordinator to asssit them when needed. No previous teaching experience required. Our program runs Monday through Thursday from 10:00-2:00. Tutors meet with their student at least once a week for a two hour session.
Our students are low income single mothers who lack the job skills, English language proficiency or cultural acclimation to obtain reliable employment. Our goal is to break the cycle of generational poverty by providing skills based training in sewing along with literacy instruction.
