The Laurel Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children, youth and families affected by HIV/AIDS, transgender/gender diverse youth, and other at-risk youth. We are looking for enthusiastic Camp counselors, RNs, LVNs, NPs, MDs, and PAs certified in California who want to make a difference. If you love to help others, make life-long friendships, and expand your horizons, then volunteer at Camp Laurel our HIV session (July 31-August 6), and Camp Mulberry (our transgender/gender diverse session) August 7-August 13!!
For our Summer Camp, we host children (ages 6-17) affected by HIV/AIDS for Camp Laurel and transgender/gender diverse youth for Camp Mulberry, to a safe and fun environment where they are free to just be themselves. Our programs enable these youth to experience the magic and wonders of childhood free from the stresses of their daily lives. Through love, compassion, and hope, Camp Laurel and Camp Mulberry teach children to understand that each one of them has the ability to make his or her life as full and rich as the next child’s regardless of the obstacles that are in their path. We empower families to grow closer and form bonds with families that have similar stories.
Volunteers act as role models, mentors, friends, and a support system for these youth. Volunteers will get the opportunity to work directly with the kids at camp and get to participate in a variety of traditional camp activities (archery, arts & crafts, campfires, yoga, rock climbing, etc.).
Serving as a volunteer Medical Staff is a rewarding and challenging experience, one that many volunteers return to year after year. Volunteers must be RNs, NPs, or MDs registered in California. Housing and food is provided for those accepted into our program.
"Every time I come to camp I learn a new life lesson, and that life lesson is always taught to me through the heart of a camper. I have never had any experience that comes close to what I experience every time I come to camp. It’s amazing and life-changing and I always come away with more than I could ever give." - Jody (7 camps)
