Are you looking to inspire young people? Be a resource to young adults? This is an excellent opportunity! STARBASE 2.0 is working with Betances STEM Academy to offer a STEM-based program geared to inspire and hone engineering skills in 6th & 7th grade students. The program will center around helping the students to create their own TED talk around a STEM topic that they choose.
The program will run on Thursdays between Oct 20 - June 8. Defined skills in STEM is not required. A desire to spread the love of learning and challenging one’s self is required. The end goal of this program is to work with the students to help them design and create their own TED talk, while gaining skills such as planning, communication, long-term thinking, etc.
Your role as a mentor is greatly left to your comfort level. You are invited to take part if you can offer weekly or only one afternoon a month. STARBASE staff will lead the program (unless you want to take turns in the driver’s seat!). We want the experience to be rewarding for student and mentor alike. To meet that goal, we are flexible with our mentors to help them get what they are looking for out of the experience.
If interested please contact Ted Garner at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!
