Islands Hospice offers a free eight hour Volunteer Orientation for anyone interested in becoming a hospice volunteer.
There are many different types of volunteer opportunities available, ranging from direct patient and family care, office work, alternative therapies such as massage, pet therapy, arts & crafts, and special events planning.
We offer services in patient's homes and nursing homes, and also do education and outreach in the greater community.
Volunteers are an extremely important part of our team. We offer a warm and friendly work environment, and an excellent opportunity to explore career options in a variety of disciplines.
All of our Patient Companionship volunteers are required to complete the 8 hour training.
We also welcome volunteers to assist with administrative tasks in the office. (The 8-hour orientation is not required for the role of Office Volunteer.)
Everyone is welcome to become involved. The hours are flexible and the time commitment is completely open. Volunteers can choose to become involved in patient care on a weekly basis, or can make a one time commitment to a special event. All help is needed and appreciated!

Hospice care focuses on improving the quality of remaining life after the diagnosis of an incurable illness. Hospice recognizes dying as part of the normal process of life and neither hastens nor prolongs death. Islands Hospice provides a team approach to care, involving the patient's own physician, the hospice medical director, hospice nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers.
