Deliver social science kits to Pierce County elementary schools.
Drivers are needed to deliver curriculum kits to and from Job Carr Cabin Museum in Old Town Tacoma. Educators use the traveling trunk materials to teach third and fourth grade students about the Oregon Trail and early Tacoma history.
You'll deliver trunks to and from schools within a 10 mile radius of the Museum (Tacoma, University Place, Gig Harbor, Federal Way, Puyallup). Delivery drivers are needed 3-5 days per month, September through June. Delivery dates are known well in advance. Deliveries occur during the school day (9am-3pm).
This volunteer position requires a valid drivers license, proof of insurance and the ability to lift at least 40lbs. The traveling trunks are on wheels, but will need to be moved in and out of your vehicle.
Must provide your own vehicle with carrying capacity for the school trunks. The kits are large and you may need to transport 2-4 kits at a time so a van, canopied truck, or other vehicle with extra storage area is preferred. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Volunteers must be available for at least one shift per month in spring and fall. We welcome volunteers of ages, interests and skills levels. You must be reliable, with excellent promptness and courteous behavior. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application form and successfully pass a security background check.
