We are celebrating the 25th year anniversary of the Day Laborer's Collective (sfdaylabor.org), and we are looking for an extremely organized person who is enthusiastic about throwing a Grand Reopening party of our worker center! The ideal candidate has experience organizing events and can effectively collaborate, plan and execute on the multiple priorities associated with making things happen. This is going to be fun!!!
The San Francisco Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective (DLP/WC) is a grassroots-organized program deeply rooted in the community with strong support of key stakeholders. For over 20 years, the DLP/WC has been extremely successful at uniting, empowering, and organizing immigrant workers for dignified work and fair wages in San Francisco. Workers are organized in two collectives, one of men and one of women, for building collective power, developing skills, and operating a shared business.
Members of the collectives work united and organized to eradicate the injustices that affect them, while building their dignity, power and leadership. They learn, work,and participate in immigrant worker movements because they share a vision of having the same opportunities and rights than any other worker. The collectives are co-founders and leaders in the National Day Labor Organizing Network, National Domestic Workers Alliance, Progressive Workers Alliance, California Domestic Workers Coalition, Jobs with Justice, San Francisco Rising, among others.
Position Objective: This position organizes events from conception through to completion.
This position is part of a volunteer team that supports the fundraising initiatives of the Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective. It is directed to transforming the lives of low-wage immigrant workers at a personal level, in order to develop leaders who can promote the dignity of their work and transform the industries in which they work. This position has the following.
Responsibilities:
Research market, identify event opportunities and generate interest
Plan, design and produce events while managing all project delivery elements within time limits
Conduct research, gather information and negotiate contracts/donations prior to closing deals
Propose ideas to improve event quality and outcomes
Organize and manage all event’s details such as decor, catering, entertainment, transportation, location, invitee list, special guests, equipment, promotional material etc
Ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations
Specify staff and volunteer requirements and coordinate their activities
Support the marketing and promotion and publicize event
Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day
Conduct pre- and post - event evaluations and report on outcomes
Desired Skills:
Event/project management experience
Portfolio of previously organized events
Highly organized
Highly motivated
Excellent time management and communication skills
Sales skills and ability to build productive business relationships
Ability to manage multiple projects independently
Abilit to work under very tight deadlines
MS Office proficiency
