ORGANIZATION: Habitat for Humanity Chicago ReStore

  • 13 people are interested

Do you have a keen eye for design and layout? Does clutter and chaos drive you to organization? Do you want to be a part of a successful social enterprise and build community? Habitat's ReStore Chicago is seeking a volunteer to assist us with maintaining what some have described as "one of the best organized thrift stores around". In conjunction with ReStore management, the volunteer will work to arrange, rearrange, and organize merchandising displays and departments.

Volunteers are needed Wednesdays through Sundays between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Volunteers typically sign up for three hour shifts. There is currently a STRONG need for a volunteer in this role on Fridays and Sundays.

Volunteers 14 and 15 years of age must be accompanied by their parent/guardian. Volunteers 16 and 17 must have their parent/guardian sign a Release and Waiver for minors.

About Habitat for Humanity Chicago ReStore

Location:

6040 N.Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60646, US

Mission Statement

The purpose of ReStore Chicago is to contribute to the work of Habitat for Humanity by building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. We raise funds by selling donated home goods to the public at largely reduced rates, funneling 100% of the proceeds into Habitat for Humanity Chicago's efforts to support our city. When you support your local ReStore by shopping, donating or volunteering, you're not just supporting your local community, you’re helping to provide assistance to the 259,000 people facing critical housing needs in Chicago.

Description

The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity's ecosystem in action - every purchase, donation and volunteer hour breathes life into our mission. Each simple yet significant act contributes to bringing safe, affordable housing to the 1 in 10 Chicagoans who need assistance.

Every year, ReStore Chicago diverts over 800 tons of goods from the landfill and reinvests half a million dollars directly into the communities that need it most.

We invite people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to volunteer at our location at 6040 N Pulaski. From customer service to merchandising to event planning, ReStore Chicago offers a variety of volunteer opportunities geared toward individual interests and skills.

In addition to helping families create safe, decent, and affordable housing, you can expect a fun and rewarding time while volunteering. It’s a great place to interact with staff and volunteers while engaging with your community. Opportunities are available Tuesday through Sunday all year round, as well as during special events at trade shows and exhibitions.

You can sign up today by visiting our volunteer portal and registering for ReStore Volunteer 101. Take the first step in becoming a ReStore Chicago volunteer now: volunteer.habitatchicago.org
