TITLE: Volunteer Job Readiness Instructor
OBJECTIVE: To help prepare refugees for employment opportunities.
TIME REQUIRED: Flexible, 8 hours per week, Mon. - Fri., 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
Bilingual Arabic/English or English/Spanish
HR or workforce services experience
Capable and interested in working with people of diverse languages and cultures
Possess a sense of hospitality, flexibility, patience and good humor
Ability to work with people of limited English proficiency
Knowledgeable of entry-level job opportunities that are accessible for people with limited English proficiency
Able to coach, not interfere or force, appropriate behaviors that lead to employment
OUTLINE OF SERVICES:
Teach job readiness sessions two mornings per week
Teach participants about the employment process including resume and letter writing, job search, completing applications, researching employers, basic to advanced interviewing skills and proper workplace behavior.
Performs other duties as assigned to meet program needs.
Keep accurate records of volunteer service hours and activities.
Work collaboratively with the volunteer coordinator and communicate regularly with supervisor.

Description
The Refugee and Immigrant Services Department houses a number of programs all geared towards refugee assistance and self-sufficiency. Fleeing their homes from persecution or war, we feel that refugees have a right to live their lives openly without fear of persecution. We have developed our programs around this ideology. They are all designed to help refugees find gainful employment, develop their English skills, find them housing, and acculturate them to their new surroundings.
