Our Union team at our end-of-season 5k

Girls on the Run is also looking for coaches!

Imagine the satisfaction and reward of helping not just one girl but 15 gain a stronger sense of identity, greater self-acceptance, a healthier body, and an understanding of what it means to be part of a team in just a couple of hours a week.

Coaches are provided with training, a comprehensive, well-researched curriculum, and teaching materials that are being used by Girls On The Run in communities around the nation. Our coaches come from a wide variety of backgrounds: parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and other community members who value health and physical fitness.

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Our teams meet twice a week for ten weeks in the fall and spring. With almost 100 sites in Burlington, Essex, Mercer, Morris, and Union counties, you're sure to find an opportunity in your area.

Our fall season kicks off the second week of September. Email gabrielle@girlsontherunnj.org for more information about how to get involved. No running or coaching experience is required!

Description

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the Run of New Jersey is an Affiliate Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 140 chapters across the United States and Canada.

The dynamic 10 week program combines training for a 5k (3.1 mile) running race with education and interactive discussions about critical issues that will affect pre-teen girls as they reach adolescence. Trained volunteer coaches teach life lessons to girls through fun and clever running games and workouts.

Our goal is that girls completing the program are physically, mentally, and emotionally stronger and better prepared to overcome the challenges and pressures of adolescence and beyond.
