Make a difference in a person's life. Teach an adult to read. Project Read volunteers attend two engaging training workshops and are well-prepared before being paired with an adult literacy student. The 10-hour training will be held on Saturdays, April 29 and May 6 (10am-3pm) at the San Mateo MAIN Library, 55 West 3rd Avenue. Preregistration is required. Spring flyer:

For more information on volunteering for Project Read, call 650.522.7848. Join our team as a volunteer adult literacy tutor. Volunteers are patient, flexible and want to make a difference in their community. Tutors work one-on-one with adult learners, improving basic reading and writing skills and supporting learners in achieving their learning goals.

Volunteer tutors must:
-- Have a high school diploma or GED
-- Complete tutor orientation and training (2 days)
-- Commit to at least six months of volunteering
-- Be available to tutor twice a week for one or two hour sessions
-- Stay connected with Project Read by participating in phone calls and planning meetings
