Help staff our Community Kitchen! Our staff and culinary trainees keep up with many daily cooking demands but we often get a lot of donated food that needs to be sorted, prepped and stored for later usage. Teams will help with those tasks as well as helping with food being prepared for lunch service or meals we deliver to other agencies around the KC metro.
Our biggest need is for help on weekday mornings from 8:30-10:30, but other food prep shifts are available Monday or Thursday evenings from 5-7 pm or 6-8 pm or Saturdays as early as 8:30 until as late as 3 pm (there are 3 shifts, and you're welcome to sign up for multiple but please note that Saturdays often fill up weeks in advance, especially during the school year). NourishKC, formerly known as Episcopal Community Services, specializes in a unique blend of food related programs.
The Kansas City Community Kitchen provides more than 1500 restaurant-style meals each week to anyone who comes to eat. Our Food Security Network supplies thousands more meals per year through a network of food pantries, BackSnack programs and other meal programs around the metro. Perhaps what makes us most unique is our Culinary Cornerstones training program which provides individuals an opportunity to learn life skills as well as culinary skills, giving them a chance to get a living wage job that will provide them with food access for the long term.
