Imagine living in daily fear for your safety because of war and/or persecution. Constant stress and anxiety dictate your life because you are no longer welcome in the place where you live. Every day thousands of people around the world make the emotional decision to migrate to America. Many of them sacrifice well established careers, the comforts of family and their home country for the opportunity to start over.
While most refugees and immigrants are happy to leave their situations, the transition to living in America is not easy. This is where you come in. We need your talents, passion, skills and service to help individuals regain their independence and get back on their feet. Learning English is critical to successfully navigating a new world, integrating into the community and landing a job.
At Tiyya, our tutoring volunteers, perform the following:
One on one tutoring sessions
Teach small classes of 3 to 5 in a safe environment that supports learning
Prior experience tutoring English/ESL, a TESOL certificate, or currently enrolled TESOL students are preferred.
If you have a desire to serve, grow personally and connect with a dynamic network of volunteers, this is the opportunity for you. You'll have the unique chance to directly see how individuals benefit, progress and gain confidence from your support and help. You'll see a transformation. Our volunteers witness individuals absorbing the English language, graduating from the VESL program, landing a job and becoming productive members of the community. Working with Tiyya’s clients has unlimited meaning and reward. This experience is also ideal for volunteers aspiring to teach English domestically or abroad.
