Juvenile Court Mentoring
The Island County Juvenile Court Mentoring Program facilitates mentoring relationships between adult volunteers in our community, and teens participating in juvenile probation or juvenile drug court. The program is voluntary for the teens, but they do get some credit for required community service for participating.
We match our participants with an adult who will be a role model and ally to the teen. We ask that mentors spend time with his/her mentee at least once per week for an hour, doing something fun they both enjoy!
We have found that mentors connect with kids more easily and bond more quickly if they share hobbies, interests or if the adult has a skill the teen wants to learn. Some common hobbies and interest of our teens are:
- Video and Table-Top Gaming
- Outdoor Recreation: hiking, beachcombing, etc
- Arts: Music, painting/drawing, dance, glsss blowing/ceramics
- Trades: auto machanics, langscaping, metal works, cooking
Commitment/Requirements for Mentors:
Mentors will need to pass a background check and provide proof of driver's license and insurance. There is an application and interview. If it's a good fit, you will be asked to attend 2 initial training sessions over 2 evenings at about 2-3 hours each. Mentors will receive consistent support and opportunities for ongoing training.
Thanks for considering working with us! If you are interested, please include your phone number in your note to us, or call the coordinator directly! We have been having troubles with emails being marked as spam and not being recieved, thanks!

They also serve as allies and role models to their mentees, showing them the benefits of a positive and sober life.We ask mentors to spend a minimum of one hour per week with the mentee, and the commitment is 1-2 years.
