El Sistema Pittsburgh is seeking candidates to serve on our board of directors. We are a nonprofit organization focused on promoting the idea that music education - specifically ensemble music education - can and should be used as a means of uplifting and unifying an underserved community starting with the youth. El Sistema Pittsburgh "ESPGH" has been an organization under the 40 year old philosophical model known as "El Sistema". This has been a proven educational platform that immerses the student in ensemble music education, and in part allows the empowerment and unification of underserved and disadvantaged communities.
El Sistema has touched the lives of over 2 million Venezuelan children and over 180 locations. The organization has global alliance with El Sistema and it's inspired programs that spans over 62 countries. The organization seeks board members to assist with fundraising, development, marketing, and public relations. We especially would like to engage board members with connections in the Pittsburgh arts and education scene who can help us reach influential donors and media outlets that are interested in our mission.
El Sistema PGH, in affiliation with the Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS), has started to develop a music program at the Barack Obama Academy of International Studies (Obama Academy). The partnership between ESPGH and PPS began in May of 2016 with the purpose of creating new after-school music opportunities for underserved communities.
