Friends of Caroline Hospice understands physical contact has a calming effect, and that dogs have the ability to bring back pleasant memories.
Pet Therapy Volunteers will provide an opportunity for patients and families to participate in a healing environment involving qualified dog therapy volunteers. Pet Therapy volunteers must complete Friends on-line volunteer training and complete a national standard pet therapy program, such as Therapy Dogs Incorporated, with their dogs. A copy of the pet therapy program certification, insurance and health record will be required.
The time commitment is flexible, on an as requested basis. The volunteer can coordinate a visitation schedule directly with the patient or the patient’s caregiver. This allows for flexibility in meeting both the volunteer’s and patient’s scheduling needs. If a volunteer would be more comfortable visiting while staff is present, the Volunteer Coordinator will arrange for a visit while the nurse or certified nursing assistant is present.
