Logistics Committee Member- Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Logistics Committee Member:

Time Commitment: One 60 minute meeting per month (March-October), plus 1-8 hours of planning a month.

Position Responsibilites:We are currently looking for volunteer who can complete one of more of the below tasks.

  • Develop, communicate, and implement strategies to create a safe, comfortable, and seamless experience for all Making Strides participants.

  • Work with Society staff and the sponsorship chair to leverage relationships with business and community contacts to secure low-cost and/or no-cost equipment, supplies, and services needed for the Making Strides event. For example:

    • Event site/contingency site

    • Restrooms/portable toilets

    • Trash cans and trash removal/recycling containers and removal

    • Tents/tables/chairs

    • Electrical needs/lighting

    • Stage/sound system

    • Emergency medical personnel

    • Security personal

  • Work with Society staff to track contact information, contribution details, and recognition for vendors/suppliers and in-kind sponsors.

  • Work with appropriate committee members, site contacts, and Society staff to prepare a master logistics timeline from the safety check to clean-up.

  • Create a master list of event requirements and determine who will order and be the main contact of all rental equipment (i.e. parking, signage, safety, transportation, registration, accounting, ceremonies, survivorship, mission, advocacy, promotions, lighting, staging, sound, restrooms, etc.).

  • Prepare a layout/map of the event site, and ensure that all participants are aware of the site layout/map

  • Prepare a crisis/emergency plan to deal with injuries, conflict, and/or inclement weather, and ensure that all participants are aware of the plan

  • Accurately record information for all event site and equipment contacts and provide the information to the event chair and Society staff

What is Making Strides Against Breast Cancer?

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities with a shared determination to finish the fight against breast cancer. Passionate walk participants raise critical funds that enable the American Cancer Society to fund groundbreaking breast cancer research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by breast cancer; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it is most treatable.
