Have you ever wanted to work for the National Park Service?
Well this is your opportunity. We are looking for energetic, friendly volunteers to help staff the visitor center at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, a part of Gateway National Recreation Area.
Role: The Visitor Center Assistant is often the first interaction with a National Park Service representative that a visitor will have. It is the job of the volunteer to ensure that visitors are made to feel welcome, oriented to the site, and given accurate information in a friendly, professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet park visitors
- Staff front desk providing park and general information to the public.
- Educate visitors on the regulations of the park and safety concerns.
- Use telephone to provide information about the park.
- Distribute maps, brochures, and other printed materials.
- Assist with book store sales.
Volunteering as a Visitor Center Assistant is a great way to learn about the National Park Service and develop the skills needed for a career with the Park Service. Regular shifts can offer opportunities to gain experience in interpretation, environmental education, natural resource protection, and park management.
