Volunteer Medical Director Job Description for Hospital Bienfaisance of Pignon, Haiti

Brief Job Description:

The Medical Director of the Hospital de Bienfaisance reports to the Board of Directors of the Comite de Bienfaisance (CBP) and Promise for Haiti (PFH). This person should be a certified Medical Doctor and preferably a surgeon. Additionally we require a Christian who will direct all activities with patients and staff in a Christian manner congruent with the Mission Statement and bylaws of the institution. The person should reside in or close to Pignon hospital compound and will be required to be present on a daily basis with exception of vacation time.

The Director will be responsible for raising their own funds for living expenses while in this position.

The person in this position is in charge of overseeing and participating in the daily medical operations of the hospital and clinics. The Director will be expected to participate in patient care and administrative duties generally as outlined below:

Medical Responsibilities

• Medical Duties to be shared with on staff physicians and nurses at the hospital including
• rounding and providing care for inpatients
• surgical care of inpatients (if applicable to candidate)
• directing Grand Rounds
• Teaching physicians, visiting residents, students and nursing staff
• Staffing the clinic at the hospital and satellite locations around the Pignon area
• Work in conjunction with visiting medical teams
• Other tasks related to medical responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities

• Oversight of the quality of care of medical inpatients and outpatients
• Oversight of physician and nursing staff of the hospital and participate in hiring staff
• Oversight of operations of the laboratory and imaging services
• Oversight of the pharmacy
• Oversight of the operating room
• Oversight of the inventory of the hospital
• Participate in meetings of administration and medical staff
• Participate in meetings with partners of CBP and PFH
• Writing for projects and grants for the hospital and Comite Bienfaisance de Pignon
• Provision of quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports to the CBP and PFH Boards
• Be a member of the Medical Task Force
• Oversight of hospital patient safety
• Potential travel to the US for fundraising

Community Responsibilities

• Work with the Community Health Director to address health issues in the community
• Report to the Comite Bienfaisance at regular meetings.
• Provision of Christian leadership in the community by participating in community gatherings or meetings related to the hospital
• Assist with education of the community regarding preventive health care and other applicable medical topics

Beneficial Skills

• Trained for use of computers for EMR, data tracking, & reporting
• Speaking the English, French or Creole language
• Ability to teach, lecture, write and communicate well
• Provision to work according to the philosophy of the organization
