At SafeShelby, we need volunteers who stand ready to assist sexual assault victims at our clinic in Pelham or at the hospital. Advocates meet clients at the door and go with them through the forensic interview and rape kit exam. They provide emotional support and information about additional services.
Don't know what to say or do? No worries. We will equip you with what to say and how to say it! Training classes will help you understand victims’ emotions/needs during this time of crisis.
Volunteer advocates are asked to take a minimum of two twelve-hour on-call shifts per month. When on call, you don’t come in unless you’re needed. This means you can go on with your regular activities unless you’re called. The response time is 30 minutes. We do ask volunteers to commit to at least twelve months of volunteerism. We try to be super flexible. In fact, you pick you own schedule.
