PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The American Red Cross launched the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign (HFPC) in October 2014, with the goal to reduce the rate of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 over 5 years. Its strategy includes participating in a community coalition that targets neighborhoods at-risk for home fires, installs and tests smoke alarms, and provides fire safety and disaster preparedness education/planning. Event Leads work independently or as part of a team to plan and implement smoke alarm installation events/activities within a given chapter/territory. As a Home Fire Preparedness Campaign Event Lead, there are a variety of roles to choose from based on your skills/interests and local need. Lead responsibilities can range from coordinating with fire departments, community groups, and government officials in planning local smoke alarm installation events to recruiting and training volunteers to partake in these events. In addition, an Event Lead may focus on campaign logistics (securing and organizing supplies) or oversee field teams as they deliver this life-saving service. Event Leads may serve a single or multiple roles for any given event, depending on capacity and interest.
