PLACEMENT PURPOSE
External Relations coordinates sevices with and provides necessary liaison activities with government and private agencies. The Public Affairs Activity writes press releases, takes photographs, represents Red Cross in the Joint Information Center/Joint Operations Center, coordinates VIP visits and produces internal communications such as newsletters
OPEN TIME DAYS
24 hours to get started then varies depending on major disaster activity or disaster exercises (usually once or twice a year)
To start out (all courses free of charge):
* Orientation to the American Red Cross (online self-study)
* CPR & First Aid (8 hour classroom or 4 hour blended learning)
* Disaster Services: Overview (4 hour classroom)
To become a Public Affairs Service Associate (all courses free of charge):
* Disaster Public Affairs for National Relief Operations (4 hours instructor-led--webinar)
To become a Supervisor (all courses free of charge):
*Disaster Assessment Basics (3 hour classroom)
* Disaster Frontline Supervisor & Simulation (8 hour classroom)
