About the YWCA Emergency Shelter
The Emergency Shelter opened in 1976 as the first domestic violence shelter in Washington. The Shelter provides basic needs for women and children for up to 90 days, during which time these women and their families are encouraged to begin rebuilding their lives through individualized case management, education, counseling, support groups, services and 24-hour on-site advocacy. For many, the Shelter and its related services form a sturdy base from which to start fresh, stable, safe, self-sufficient lives.
