Literacy Volunteers of Methuen provides free, confidential, individualized tutoring to adults who wish to gain basic literacy skills or learn English. Tutors are trained and provided with ongoing support and resources from the Nevins Memorial Library.
Attendance at a one-hour orientation session is mandatory, as is the six week training program. After completion of training, tutors will be matched with a student with whom they will work for at least nine months.
Tutors help make a real difference in their students' lives--many students have gone on to earn professional credentials, U.S. citizenship, and academic achievements.
Trainings for tutors are held twice a year. The next session will begin with orientations in late March and training beginning in mid-April. Please feel free to contact me about this even if you're not able to start in the spring; another training session will take place in the fall!
