Quilting a Journey Quilt for our Residents

We are look for volunteers that know how to Quilt and would be willing to quilt a Journey Quilt for our two facilities.

At our campus, we have begun to use the "Journey Quilt". As a resident is actively dying, the staff go out of their way to give caring attention to them and to their loved ones. When the resident has died, we lovingly care for the body and prayer with the family. When it is time for the mortuary to receive the body, we assist in the transferring to the transport carrier, cover the body with the Journey Quilt, and begin the journey out of the house, out of the home that they have known. Family members are invited to be a part of the journey and we travel together to the hearse. Before the residents body is placed in the hearse, a staff member will pray and invite family members to share if they wish. The Journey quilt is removed and the body is received into the van. After the family and staff leave, the mortuary staff will then close the door and leave.

Not only does the journey quilt help the family, it helps the staff put a more sacred, more respectful closure to the care and service they provided for the residents and family members.
