What is MCBC? MCBC is a residential summer camp for campers ages 6-17 who have sustained burn injuries including smoke inhalation. Camp is free of charge! This special camp offers the chance for youth burn survivors to enjoy fun summer activities with others who have gone through a similar experience. The camp’s positive and supportive environment helps build self-confidence, boost self-esteem and allows children to realize they are not alone.

What is a Cabin Counselor? Cabin Counselors are an integral part of the MCBC team. Although all positions are vital to the success of camp, the Counselor’s job is by far the most demanding and the most rewarding. You will be responsible for the health, happiness and welfare of your group 24 hours a day. Please refer to the attached job description for more information.

What qualifications and experience are required? Cabin Counselors must be at least 21 years of age and Counselors-in-Training must be at least 18. Previous experience with children is not required but is preferred.

What are the essential functions of a Cabin Counselor?

  • Able to live in a cabin with others, eat meals in a large, noisy dining room, etc.
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers in both structured and unstructured activities
  • Able to address stressful situations appropriately in a fast-paced, interactive environment
  • Interact effectively with individuals and groups while respecting social and cultural diversity

What is MCBC doing to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission among the camp community while on campus?

MCBC has a Communicable Disease Plan, developed with guidance from the American Camp Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Association of Camp Nurses. In this plan are many preventative measures to protect our camp community from the spread of all communicable diseases with a special focus on COVID-19. These policies include wearing a mask when indoors, washing hands frequently, and performing extensive health screenings prior to arriving on campus for your camp session.

Camp leadership will maintain an open channel of communication about these practices and will share updates with Volunteers as they become available prior to the start of each camp sessions.

What is MCBC’s policy on the COVID-19 vaccine for 2022?

As of December 2021, MCBC will continue to require that all volunteers bring proof of having received a complete COVID-19 vaccination (first round of shots + a booster) or proof of a negative PCR test administered no sooner than 72 hours before the volunteer arrives on campus. Rapid antigen tests, including tests administered at home, will not be accepted.

Camp leadership will maintain an open channel of communication about these practices and will share updates with Volunteers as they become available prior to the start of each camp sessions.
