JFCS is the proud recipient of a grant to operate Camp Mariposa. Created and funded by The Moyer Foundation ( www.moyerfoundation.org), Camp Mariposa is a first-of-its-kind program designed to help meet the needs of children (9-12) facing the difficult challenges associated with an addicted or co-dependent family member.
Camp Mariposa is a traditional, fun, over-night camp providing counseling and emotional support, while teaching participants a variety of problem-solving and self-care strategies. The camp gives children a chance to laugh, play, explore and learn, as well as to create friendships with other children who relate to them and understand what they are going through.
Camp needs:
Respite/mentor volunteers to help with camp.
To be considered a mentor for Camp Mariposa, one should be able to commit to 4 weekends. We need a team of volunteers to work/be with the campers on Saturdays to give the camp staff time to self-care between 3:00-5:30. Camp sessions are held 6 times a year and commitment of 4 sessions are required.
Overnight stay isn't required.
