Paw Prints in the Sand

We are looking for enthusiastic Board members that share our passion for helping animals in need. The Board will support the work of Paw Prints in the Sand and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by the Paw Prints in the Sand co-founders, the Board-Cofounder relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

Leadership, governance, and oversight:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the co-founders as they continue to develop and implement Paw Prints In The Sand’s strategic plans
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Paw Prints in the Sand for evaluating impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness against those metrics
  • Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Assisting the co-founders and board chair in identifying and recruiting other board members as needed
  • Partner with the co-founders and other board members to ensure board resolutions are carried out
  • Serve on committees, task forces, and special assignments
  • Represent Paw Prints in the Sand to stakeholders; act as an ambassador for the organization
  • Ensure Paw Prints in the Sand’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities Paw Prints In The Sand serves

Fundraising

Paw Prints in the Sand Board Members will consider Paw Prints in the Sand a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that Paw Prints in the Sand can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Paw Prints in the Sand expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

Other Duties

  • Attend board meetings regularly
  • Be knowledgeable about the organization
  • Come to board meetings prepared and informed about agenda issues
  • Contribute to meetings by expressing a point of view
  • Consider other points of view, make constructive suggestions and help the board make decisions that benefit the organization’s constituencies
  • Serve on at least one committee
  • Represent the organization to individuals, the public, and other organizations in a positive and professional manner
  • Support the organization through attendance at special events and activities and through meaningful financial contributions
  • Assume board leadership roles when asked
  • Keep the executive director informed of relevant community concerns
  • Maintain confidentiality of board discussion

Board terms/participation

Paw Prints in the Sand 's Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held monthly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Paw Prints in the Sand’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • A commitment to and understanding of Paw Prints in the Sand 's beneficiaries, preferably based on experience
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Paw Prints in the Sand’s beneficiaries

Service on Paw Prints in the Sand’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except in direct relation to Board Members’ duties.

Our mission is to save as help save as many lives as possible and put an end to animal abuse, abandonment and neglect. We strive reduce shelter overpopulation, owner surrenders and the number of stray animals who roam our streets by promoting spaying and neutering. We also promote responsible pet ownership and pet retention.

Description

Paw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) all- animal rescue organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abused, abandoned, neglected and stray companion animals.

We rescue the pets that no one else will - severe medical, abuse and behavioral cases, pregnant pets and their litters, and senior pets.

Headquartered in Orange County, California, Paw Prints in the Sand is an all-volunteer, all-foster organization committed to animals in need, providing them with the utmost care, and helping them learn to love and trust again. We take considerable care in finding the perfect home for our rescue pets and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a pet into their homes and lives.

We also serve as a resource to pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including positive behavior training and information on good nutrition. We are here to assist you in every possible way throughout the adoption process and will continue to be a resource after you have welcomed your new pet into your life.
