Remembering When Home Visitor Training : Monday, February 4, 1 - 4:00pm
Senior Services, in collaboration with the Midland Fire Department, MidMichigan Medical Center, and the American Red Cross, is launching Remembering When: A Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults. This effort, a recently updated, nationally recognized program of the National Fire Protection Association, consists of home visits with older adults to review a safety checklist to help reduce the risk of falls & fires and install smoke alarms as needed. Volunteers trained in this program, will then conduct visits. Approximately 12 volunteers are needed to review a provided safety checklist with homeowners and check & replace smoke detectors. The time commitment is 2 - 6 hours a month in two time blocks (approximately one hour per home visit) in addition to training. Mileage is reimbursed. Interested volunteers should have good people skills including excellent communication & listening and a desire to help older adults stay safe in their own homes. (Please give a phone number in addition to email.)
