Flyer

The Community Foundation of South Lake hosts an internal scholarship program, the DREAM Scholarship Program. It was created to assist South Lake County youth with improving graduation rates. We are seeking mentors to support this selection of students. Every child should have the opportunity of being connected with a mentor. Mentoring is as simple as being a listening ear, encouraging, providing guidance and being consistent.

We consider mentorship more of a relationship than a responsibility!

  • All students attend the three South Lake County High Schools, East Ridge, South Lake and Lake Minneola
  • Mentor matching will include the following considerations: days/times available, interests, personality traits, & location preference.
  • Students meet with their mentors at school and/or local public facilities approved by the parent.
  • Mentors are expected to meeting at least 3 times per month.

Mission Statement

To provide local youth who have experienced adversity, with an innovative, holistic program that will challenge them to envision and navigate a course for a rewarding future characterized by achievement, independent thought, and social responsibility through education, mentoring, tutoring, and technology.

Description

The Community Foundation of South Lake County (CFSLC) has partnered with community non-profit organizations to offer a comprehensive program to meet the needs and provide support to local "at risk" adolescents while awarding them college scholarships. The DREAMers range are 12-15 years old and come from challenging situations and unfortunate circumstances. These teens tend to have more adverse experiences and responsibilities in their home life as well as daily obstacles.

A huge component of the DREAM Initiative is to provide each student with a mentor. Mentorship is powerful; it is fun and enriching to both the mentor and mentee and it’s important. A child being able to experience positive interactions with an adult and form a trusting bond is catalyst for success in many areas of their lives.
