RESET places volunteer scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians (STEM) in DC, Virginia and Maryland elementary schools and Pre-Kindergarten Centers to lead students in hands-on STEM learning. RESET’s objective is to get children excited about STEM learning and to consider science and math in their future education and career choices. Volunteers typically lead six sessions of about one hour each with the same teacher and class of students during a school term and lead their class on a STEM related field trip. Programs are available during the school day and in after-school programs, with a limited number of evening, weekend and summer opportunities. RESET provides a self-directed New Volunteer Training Program and covers expenses for transportation, classroom materials and field trips. RESET places volunteers in schools in their area of geographic preference, and scheduling of classroom sessions is flexible to accommodate volunteer availability.
