Do you eat Lunch? Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking volunteer mentors to work with children in an elementary school setting one hour a week.

We have school-based programs in Emmet and Charlevoix Counties.

Volunteers visit the school for one hour either during the child's lunch time, free period, or during extended day programs. All activities take place at school during the regular school day. When school is not in session, our mentoring matches do not meet.

Volunteers spend their time with the child having lunch, playing a game, playing in the gym or outdoors during recess, working on academics, and enjoying other in-school activities geared toward helping the child do well in school.

Volunteer commit to seeing the child through one school year. Matches are placed on hold over the summer months since there is no school. In the fall, the volunteer has the ability to continue the friendship with the same child and follow them through another school year.

All matches are one-to-one mentoring relationships. However, this is a great opportunity for a group of individuals (co-workers, friends, high school classmates) to all go to the school on the same day and each mentor a different child.

It is a great way to get away from the office a bit, enjoy life from a child's perspective, and help them succeed in school and life.
