Make a powerful positive difference in another person’s life. Volunteers are needed to tutor, teach, and mentor adult students. LEAP, the Richmond Public Library’s adult literacy program, provides vital educational services to adults who want to improve their reading and writing skills. The program matches volunteer tutors one-to-one with adult learners. Together the volunteer and the student build a relationship that is based on a shared desire to reach educational goals.
As LEAP serves the community, we recognize that volunteers are one of our most vital and powerful resources. We are currently looking for volunteers to perform a variety of roles including as one-to-one tutors, teaching assistants, and computer coaches. LEAP has both daytime and evening opportunities available. Volunteers must be 21 years of age and have a high school diploma (or equivalent). LEAP asks for a minimum of a 6-month commitment. In addition, successful volunteers are flexible, dedicated, and empathetic to the students.
Volunteering for LEAP is a great way to learn new skills, affect positive change, and have fun.
