Two volunteers are need to provide staff assistance to the Concessions Management Specialist of the Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks. All duties will be performed under the supervision of the parks' Concessions Management Specialist. This position will have an emphasis on duties associated with Commercial Use Authorizations and concessions contracts.

The volunteer will have a workstation at the Everglades National Park Headquarters, 10 miles southwest of Homestead, Florida. The volunteer will need to regularly travel by driving a government vehicle to units of Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks that host concession operations.

We are looking for volunteers to begin as soon as possible and serve between 15-20 hours per week (no more than 32 hours).

Duties

  • Manage/Organize Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) files
  • Scan files and relocate paper copies to archives as needed
  • Assist in the development of potential new concession contracts
  • Track visitor comments, prepare draft correspondence as needed
  • Observe concessions operations, monitor contract compliance
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, tolerance, and patience are necessary traits in dealing with park visitors
Requirements & Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive long distances
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills and work ethic
  • Ability to maintain records and data
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and other computer-based resources
  • Displays reliability and responsibility and generally works without direct supervision
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree desired, or actively enrolled in an accredited institution that would grant one of those degrees
