JiquililloJiquilillo, NI

The community of Jiquilillo faces many challenges: Unemployment and dependence on seasonal work, volatile and persistently low incomes, and a struggling education system. Environmental challenges abound as well, ranging from unsustainable resource use to the lack of a waste management system.

The program provides help in many ways, e.g. by offering educational opportunities and employing locals, as well as offering business development assistance and local guide training. Additionally, they use a composting toilet system, repurpose their grey water, and facilitate regular beach cleanups and environmental awareness activities through the Surf Club program.
