If you enjoy children’s literature and sharing your love of reading, consider becoming a Booklegger! The Booklegger Program is dedicated to promoting reading to school-aged children in the Pleasanton Unified School District. Adult volunteers visit classrooms in grades K through 8, giving 30 to 45 minute book presentations. These presentations may include short booktalks, reading aloud, and doing simple science or craft demonstrations.
Participants attend 18 hours of training - Tuesday mornings, 9:15-11:45 a.m. for eight weeks. After training, volunteers are asked to visit 6-12 classrooms per semester (twice a year) for a minimum of one school year. Bookleggers determine the dates and times of their school visits, and schedule them with the assistance of school and library staff.
Fall training begins Tuesday, September 17th, 2019. Contact Chris Spitzel for more information - cspitzel@cityofpleasantonca.gov or 925-931-3400 x4426.
