Save sea turtles and support environmental protection campaigns near Tortugero National Park

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Proyecto Mosaico e.V.

The project was founded by the local community to fight the hunting and poaching of turtles in their area. On the one hand they organize nightly patrols to collect turtles’ eggs and to gather them in a breeding station. On the other hand the project includes social and environmental programs. For example, the project works together with the local school and other pedagogic institutions or they organize clean ups of the local beaches.

Mission Statement

Proyecto Mosaico - Unite. Learn. Grow. *Our Vision* We are committed to international understanding, the protection of natural resources, and the promotion of human rights.

Description

Proyecto Mosaico is a German non-profit association based in Berlin/Germany with an office in Granada/Nicaragua. The focus of our work is coordinating international volunteers to organizations and projects in various countries in Central America. In addition to the coordination of volunteers, we are actively engaged in our own projects in the fields of environmental education and water and we increasingly conduct networking activities and capacity building for our local partner organizations.

We partner with local organizations that specialize in the following areas: EDUCATION & SOCIAL WORK, WOMEN, and/or ENVIRONMENT. We support organizations by providing educational, work, and networking activities, individual consulting, and support for project planning and implementation. We also assist in the collection and distribution of cash or in-kind donations.

We see volunteering as one of the best ways to promote communication and understanding between people from different cultures and thus contribute to international understanding. Our approach to volunteering is defined by equal cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships. As part of our work, we put great value on both sides - organizations and volunteers - benefiting through cooperation. We strive to ensure this mutual benefit by providing robust consulting for our volunteers, keeping close contact with our partner organizations, and offering training and informational events.
