Hands reaching in silhouette

Help inmates transition successfully back to society. They need help navigating housing, food, jobs and most importantly help with understanding how NOT to land back in jail again. Addiction counseling and relapse prevention (CBT skills) have been taught in the Boulder County jail for more than a decade. Join us once per week for a couple of hours to help in this vital program.

This program is an evidence-based curriculum with prepared course materials.

2 instructors are needed and can teach a variety of classes from DomesticViolence prevention to Anger Management or relapse prevention.

Characteristics of ideal candidates:

-Academic/professional experience with addiction counseling/CBT - CAC I or II -PLC, psychotherapy, psychology

-Compassionate - Realistic -Good boundaries -Non-judgmental -Focused on needs of the clients

One year commitment, teaching once per week, is required.

Background check and jail safety are also required. The classes are taught in either the morning or afternoon, and you're typically there for 2 hours or so which includes the time you're escorted into and out of the classrooms by deputies.

This is a crucial part of transition back into society and a valued volunteer position. This program works on evidence-based practices and is run by an amazing volunteer supervisor who cares deeply for her volunteers!

Description

We recruit and place volunteers and interns in a variety of volunteer positions for Community Justice Services and the District Attorney's (20th Judicial) office in Boulder County . Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing services to crime victims and juvenile and adult offenders. Our volunteer partners are essential in helping us maintain an open and responsive criminal justice system.
What Do Volunteers Do?
Provide support and information to crime victims and witnesses
Be a mentor to high-risk youth who need extra attention
Help people with consumer fraud complaints
Assist with research/data entry on incarceration rates and program outcomes
Teach ESL, HSE and life skills classes to incarcerated community members
