About Audubon Arizona:

A part of the City of Phoenix's Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center sits on a former dump site, now a reclaimed haven for wildlife and over 200 species of birds in an increasingly urbanized metropolitan area. The Center offers everyone the opportunity to connect to nature and to experience the outdoors year round.

Our mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and earth's biological diversity.


Field trips are an essential program of Audubon Arizona. Nature In Your Neighborhood Field Trip Volunteers will assist with implementing interpretive programming, and maintaining an environment conducive for learning with grades K-8.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and prepare for morning set-up
  • Implement interpretive stations by leading bird walks, sharing animal biofacts, and leading student-driven discussions
  • Describe and explain information in ways all age groups can understand
  • Work with co-leaders of stations to provide engaging lessons
  • Represent Audubon Arizona in a positive manner by maintaining a positive attitude and delivering excellent guest experiences


  • Friendly, outgoing personality to interact with students and guests of all ages
  • Comfortable being outdoors, with varying degrees of heat and inclement weather
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments
  • Ability to relate skills to others
  • Know, or be willing to learn, various types of fauna, flora, and animals commonly seen at Audubon Arizona
  • Ability to walk a one-mile interpretive trail
  • Must pass background check
