About Audubon Arizona:

A part of the City of Phoenix's Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center sits on a former dump site, now a reclaimed haven for wildlife and over 200 species of birds in an increasingly urbanized metropolitan area. The Center offers everyone the opportunity to connect to nature and to experience the outdoors year round.

Audubon Arizona Mission:

Our mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and earth's biological diversity.


Purpose:

The community of Phoenix is vast and complex. Community Outreach Volunteers connect with the residents of Phoenix is various ways to assist in spreading the word about Audubon Arizona using an assortment of activities and presentations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in community events such as local festivals, expos, and fairs
  • Staff Audubon Arizona's exhibitor booth at these events
  • Inform the public and promote Audubon Arizona's programs, events, and volunteer opportunities
  • Assist with set-up / take down of exhibitor booth
  • Stay up-to-date on Audubon programming and services
  • Advocacy for Audubon programming
  • Represent Audubon Arizona in a positive manner by maintaining an enthusiastic attitude and delivering excellent experiences

Qualifications:

  • Friendly, outgoing personality to interact with individuals of all ages
  • Must be able to interact positively with community members
  • Knowledge of Audubon programming, or willingness to learn
  • Openly supports the mission of Audubon Arizona
  • Ability to travel to and from sites, with mileage reimbursement
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs and carry / pull booth materials short distances to event site

To connect people with nature using science, education and advocacy to protect Arizona's birds, other wildlife, and their habitats.

Description

The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is a nature center in the heart of the City of Phoenix's Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, a 600-acre park along the historic Salt River. Located less than two miles from downtown Phoenix, the Center is a gateway to a lush Sonoran riparian habitat used by over 200 species of birds and other wildlife.

The free admission Center offers interactive exhibits, an interpretive loop trail, connections to the Rio Salado Habitat's sixteen miles of hiking and riding trails and a variety of programs, including beginning birding classes and bird walks, school field trip programs and more. Designed by Weddle Gilmore Architects, the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is a green building and is expected to be LEED certified. The Center's sustainable features include a photovoltaic system, a waste water recycling system, low water use fixtures, pervious surfaces and bioswales to capture rain and run-off water and energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems.

The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is the headquarters of the Arizona state office of the National Audubon Society.
