Reading with an adult can make all the difference.

Hello,

Volunteers will be paired with a 6th grade student, whom they will meet at the school library once a week on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:00 AM (during the student's Advisory period).

Volunteers will work with students to do the following:

1. If necessary, help 6th grader find a book to read in the library

2. Listen to him/her read, discuss what he/she read using a given protocol

3. Help him/her set and maintain reading goals

4. Help student develop confidence and joy around reading

5. When done working with student record a few sentences about their progress on an online log that the teacher will be able to look at

Volunteers do not need to have any experience in education, but do need to be open and willing to be flexible with 11-12 year olds.
