ORGANIZATION: Lutheran Social Services

  • 13 people are interested

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is seeking volunteers to serve as Ohio Benefit Bank Counselors, connecting neighbors with benefits and tax credits that low and moderate income households need. Simple online applications may include food assistance, home energy assistance (HEAP), utility assistance, Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), medical benefits, prescription assistance, child care subsidies, voter registration and State and Federal taxes.

Counselors should be computer literate, compassionate, patient, respectful of diversity and able to work independently. We ask that counselors can commit to a minimum of 6 hours per month and it is helpful if you can increase your availability during tax season. There are 5 sites throughout Franklin County as well as sites in Delaware and Lancaster. Days and times to volunteer are flexible.

Experience with public benefits is not necessary. The Ohio Association of FoodBanks offers a one day classroom training for OBB Counselors. Training may also be completed online either independently or with LSS OBB staff.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with administrative tasks supporting OBB staff and counselors with appointment scheduling and following up with clients via phone.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Debera Diggs, DIrector of LSS Ohio Benefit Bank, at ddiggs@lssco.org. We look forward to working with you!
