Volunteers will serve as the "front of house" staff in our community kitchen "Restaurant" - acting as hosts, wait staff, bussers, etc. so that all guests truly experience "dining with dignity." Volunteers should arrive no later than 10:30 to get training on how the process works and are asked to stay after the doors close to help clean up (usually done by 2:15). You can choose your position and we provide the tools you need - just come in closed toe shoes and bring a ball cap.
Kansas City Community Kitchen has been serving lunch in downtown Kansas City for more than 20 years, but in 2016 we made headlines switching from a traditional "cafeteria-style" service to "restaurant-style" service. We've made lots of news about this - you may have even seen us on Upworthy or Huffington Post!
Anyone is welcome to come and eat food prepared by our team of staff and culinary training participants. We serve Monday - Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. All volunteers are also strongly encouraged to eat lunch while there - you'll take turns getting a break to sit and eat so that there are still plenty of people to wait on incoming guests, but you'll also get a great meal (our food is freshly prepared every day and really good!) and our guests will see that the food is good enough for all of us to eat it.
You can get all the information and access our online volunteer calendar on our website at http://bit.ly/ECSvol

Mission Statement
Offering opportunities for everyone to instill dignity and build a food secure Kansas City community.
Description
NourishKC, formerly known as Episcopal Community Services, specializes in a unique blend of food related programs.
The Kansas City Community Kitchen provides more than 1500 restaurant-style meals each week to anyone who comes to eat. Our Food Security Network supplies thousands more meals per year through a network of food pantries, BackSnack programs and other meal programs around the metro. Perhaps what makes us most unique is our Culinary Cornerstones training program which provides individuals an opportunity to learn life skills as well as culinary skills, giving them a chance to get a living wage job that will provide them with food access for the long term.
