Thank you for considering volunteering with Alacare!

Become a friend when a friend is needed most! Our Visiting/Companionship Volunteers visit in the hospice patient’s home setting and help provide companionship and emotional support to the patient and/or the family. Whether it is a listening ear, a smiling face, a shoulder to lean on, or anything in between, a friendly visit from a hospice volunteer can brighten the lonely day of a patient and caregiver.

Companionship volunteers can paint nails, play games, listen, watch TV, talk about sports or other interests, read aloud, gather life stories, perform memory projects and much more. He or she can also provide the caregiver a much needed break, in order to rest, run and errand or go to an appointment.

Visiting/Companionship Volunteers also can make deliveries for birthdays, special occasions, and holidays. This is a great way to get to know the people in your community and actively meet the needs of those living in your neighborhood.

New volunteers are mentored by the Volunteer Coordinator until they feel comfortable and confident in providing assistance independently. Volunteers are never expected to assist with the personal care of patients and are assigned based on their interests and what tasks they feel they can easily accomplish.

Our volunteers set their own schedules and we work with you to make the most of your talents and time! If you have a heart for volunteering, please contact Alacare to find out more about this and other volunteer opportunities available.
